Joe Heck Can Learn To Talk To Women, But It Won’t Change His Anti-Women Voting Record

December 5, 2013

Washington, D.C. – Joe Heck may avail himself of the sessions top Republicans will hold with members on how to talk to women opponents, but that won’t change the shockingly anti-women record Heck’s compiled in Congress.

This morning, POLITICO reported that Speaker Boehner and national Republicans – desperate to turn the page on their War on Women and the damaging anti-women comments from the likes of 2012 candidates Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock – will coach Republican members on how to address their women opponents on the campaign trail. Tellingly, one Republican staffer actually said of the GOP members of Congress that will participate in these meetings, “Let me put it this way, some of these guys have a lot to learn.”

Notably absent, of course, from these coaching sessions, is anything about revisiting the anti-women policies Republicans like Joe Heck have embraced.

“Try as he might, the one thing Joe Heck will never be able to do is change the exceptionally anti-women record he’s compiled in just a few short years in office,” said Andy Stone, Communications Director for House Majority PAC. “Whether it’s Joe Heck voting to defund Planned Parenthood, to allow hospitals to deny a woman the right to choose even if her life is at risk or to place additional burdens on survivors of rape or incest seeking care, Heck’s votes just won’t fly in Nevada.”
